Live Like a Local - Tina's Traditional Tours

Interview with Tina Jesson, Founder of Tina's Traditional Tours & TheXperience Academy

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Traditional Tours & Experiences in the UK, designed for the dedicated Anglophile to live like a local in these carefully curated small group tours. Visit ancient Cities and Villages, Castles & Stately Homes, and Medieval Cathedrals... and take Afternoon Tea off the beaten track.

Tell us about yourself

I was born in England and lived for 14 years in the USA. I met so many people who dreamed of visiting or revisiting parts of Britain and would ask my advice on some of the best parts to visit. Then I decided that I could actually take them to my favorite spots and give them a more meaningful immersive "live like a local" experience. In 2014 I hosted my first tour.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love making dreams come true and creating memorable experiences. When you do what you love, it doesn't feel like work and doing it for a living; there is nothing like it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Switching off. It can take over your life, and you never switch it off. That can be hard on the family.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Just make a start. Start small and test your idea. Do what you can to move forward. Do what you can, from where you are, with what you have. Try out things without investing too much money to see what works best.
